In which Arthur is conceived — 3 Comments

  1. I agree the rape by deception that goes on in this story is unsettling, especially given that Malory himself may have been a rapist.

But I’m not sure Malory is trying to excoriate Uther from adultery (there’s a theory that the rape charges again Malory were over consentual sex, bought by an angry husband.)

It seems to me Malory is carefully setting up Arthur’s legitimacy. Ugraine is a widow when Arthur is conceived and she marries Uther soon after.
